Debris Removal Plan
What to include in a documented debris management plan for roofing projects
How debris is managed on a roofing project is one of the most visible and impactful things a contractor does. A documented debris plan reduces property damage, impresses customers, and speeds up cleanup. Here's what to include.
1Project Overview
- Project address
- Roof size in squares
- Number of layers being removed
- Project duration
- Debris management lead (person responsible)
2Equipment Selection
- Equipter 4000 (self-propelled debris catcher): describe use case
- Trash Rocket TR-3900 or TR-5000 (trailer-mounted chute): describe use case
- Custom scaffolding chute system: describe use case for multi-story
- Dumpster placement location on site
- Dump trailer (if used): parking location
3Debris Drop Zones
- Primary debris drop location (where Equipter or chute directs material)
- Backup drop zone (if primary is inaccessible)
- Distance from windows, HVAC, and landscaping
- Truck or container position relative to drop zone
4Property Protection During Debris Removal
- Landscaping protection: plywood, tarps, or barriers
- Window protection: foam board or plywood near work zone
- HVAC unit covered or protected from debris
- Adjacent property considerations (neighbor's vehicles or landscaping)
- Daily protection check before starting work
5Daily Cleanup Protocol
- End-of-day ground sweep — nails and debris
- Gutter check — clear debris that entered gutters
- Adjacent sidewalk and driveway cleared
- Dumpster or container covered overnight if required
- Customer walkthrough at end of each day
6Final Cleanup
- Magnetic nail sweep — full property perimeter
- Gutter cleaning after all work complete
- Haul-away of all dumpsters and containers
- Property photo documentation after cleanup
- Customer sign-off on site condition
💡 Pro Tip
Doing a magnetic nail sweep at the end of every project is one of the simplest ways to prevent a warranty claim, a flat tire, or a customer complaint. Make it a standard step — not an optional one.
